Don Knaak, a native of Reedley, California, graduated from Immanuel High School before enrolling at Pacific College of Fresno in the fall of 1962. He played for the (then) Vikings during the school’s transition from junior college to a fully accredited four-year institution and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) member. In the final two seasons of junior college competition (1962-63 and 1963-64), Don was named to the Northern California Christian College Conference team while helping the Vikings to a pair of N4C and Golden State Athletic Association California State basketball championships. In all, he appeared in 93 games and recorded 1,581 points and 406 rebounds. He majored in mathematics and graduated in 1966. He went on to complete a California Teaching Credential and Master of Arts degree at California State University, Fresno, while working as a FPC assistant coach. He has served as a faculty member, coach and athletics director at Immanuel High School since returning to Reedley in 1971. He guided the Eagles boy’s basketball team to more than 300 wins, including Valley Championships in 1974, 1975, 1976, 1988 and 1989. He is a devoted husband and father of three children. He has affected the lives of many with his involvement as a foster parent and the many years of service in the Christian education and prayer ministries at the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church.
