FPU unveils new logo

After 22 years Sunny, the Fresno Pacific University Sunbird mascot, needed a face lift. What he got was more like a complete overhaul.

FPU introduced the new Sunbird logo to faculty and staff on Friday morning at a special unveiling celebration in the Steinert Campus Center.

"We needed to update," said FPU athletics director Dennis Janzen. "So we formed a committee that represented our major constituencies and went to work with and open mind."

"We sought input from several different sources," continued Janzen, "And when the dust had settled it was clear that people wanted to two things. First, the majority wanted to retain the uniqueness of "Sunbirds" and second, they wanted a different design."

FPU contracted the services of Rickabaugh Graphics of Gahanna, Ohio, and in short order had their new design.

"We tested the new design internally", said Janzen," It had a lot of support. It is a big improvement, and hopefully will service for a long time."

Fresno Pacific University offers undergraduate and graduate programs that stress solid academic preparation and a strong ethical foundation.
