FPU at The Master's

Game 1: FPU 14, TMC 8

Game 2: FPU 7, TMC 7 (Suspended due to darkness)

Santa Clarita - The Sunbirds broke a seven-game skid in a big way this afternoon in Santa Clarita.

FPU pounded 17 hits on route to a 14-8 Golden State Athletic Conference win over The Master's College Mustangs.

Most of the damage came from the bats of Adam Alva, Kyle Newton and Andy Locke. Alva, a junior second baseman from Sanger, was 3-for-4, including a solo home run, with three RBI and three runs scored. Newton was 2-for-4 with an RBI an two runs scored, while n Locke was 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Left-hander Michael Mendrin gave up eight hits and six runs (five earned) in six-plus innings of work to pick up the win. He evened his record at 2-2 on the season.

"It sure feels good to win one," said FPU coach Oscar Hirschkorn. "We finally played team baseball. We were thinking team first and that helped bring our bats alive. I'm real pleased."

Game Two was suspended due to darkness with the score tied at 7-7 in the bottom of the eighth inning. The game will be completed prior to the doubleheader in Fresno on April 12.

The Sunbirds continue GSAC play in Costa Mesa this Saturday. FPU, now 6-9 overall and 2-7 in GSAC play, will face Vanguard (6-8, 2-5) in a doubleheader. The first pitch will be thrown at 11:00 a.m.
