FPU def. CSU Monterey Bay 10-9

Seaside - The Sunbirds survived eight errors, but benefitted from nine hits and nine walks to record a 10-9 come-from-behind win over the host Sea Otters of California State University Monterey Bay this afternoon in Seaside.

FPU did most of the damage in the top of the seventh. Trailing 8-2, FPU sent 13 men to the plate and scored seven runs on four hits, and five walks. When the dust had settled, the Sunbirds we up 9-8.

Justin Rhoades' fourth home run of the season, a solo shot in the top of the eight, proved to be the winning run.

Brian Fast (1-0), who pitched the seventh inning, picked up the win for the Sunbirds. Josh Franco earned his second save of the season.

"Now that was ugly," said FPU coach Oscar Hirschkorn. "I'm pleased with the win and the big comeback, but eight errors- that's unacceptable. We were very fortunate to win."

FPU, now 7-9 on the season, returns to Golden State Athletic Conference action this Saturday, when they host Biola University in a doubleheader. They games, originally scheduled for Clovis East High School, will be moved. The alternative site is expected to be announced tomorrow afternoon.
