Crisp named to All-GSAC Team

Fresno - Junior left fielder Justin Crisp has been named to the All-Golden State Athletic Conference Team. He is FPU's first baseball player to earn the award.

Crisp, who played at Washington Union High School and Fresno City College before transferring to FPU led the Sunbirds in hits (51), runs (39), walks (24), doubles (9) home runs (9), batting average (.340) and slugging percentage (.620).

Crisp made the last day of the season one to remember. In the third inning of the first game of a double-header against ninth-ranked Biola, Crisp scaled the left field wall tracking down a Chris Weems fly ball. Crisp made the catch, but his momentum carried him over the wall resulting in an Eagles home run. To make matters worse, Crisp injured his throwing hand on the play and left the game a short while later.

Crisp made a quick visit to a local clinic only to learn that he had a broken bone in his right hand, but was cleared to play. He arrived just prior to the start of the second game and was inserted into the starting lineup.

Mike Pierce opened the Sunbirds' half of the sixth with a solo home run. That tied the game at 3-3. On the next pitch Crisp sent a towering shot well over the right field wall for the game-winning run in a 4-3 win.

The Sunbirds completed the season with an 18-26 mark, including a 13-19 seventh-place finish in the GSAC.
