Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - GSAC Game #3
Final:
Westmont 59, FPU 56

Box score

Santa Barbara - FPU senior Rudy Lopez led all players with 21 points, but it wasn't enough as the Sunbirds fell 59-56 to the host Westmont College Warriors in Santa Barbara tonight.

FPU had a chance to tie the game with 10 seconds remaining, but Lesego Molebatsi was good on only one of two free throws.

Josh Urbiztondo immediately fouled Westmont's Josh Ware and Ware calmly sank both free throws for the final 3-point margin.

FPU regained the possession with nine seconds, but turned the ball over.

"I wished we'd have valued the basketball a little more," said FPU head coach Clark Sheehy. "When you make 18 turnovers and only nine assists against a good team like we played tonight it will cost you. Fortunately we get another opportunity on Saturday."

The Sunbirds record dipped to 7-4 with the loss and 0-3 in Golden State Athletic Conference play. The total margin in FPU's three GSAC losses is just 10 points.

Ware led the Warriors (9-4, 2-1) with 17 points.

Urbiztondo added 12 points for FPU. Molebatsi finished with five points, but led all players with 14 rebounds.

The Sunbirds return to action this Saturday when they host the Point Loma Nazarene University Sea Lions. Tip-off time is 4:30 p.m.
