Saturday, February 11, 2006 - GSAC Game #14
Final -
Point Loma Nazarene 89, Sunbirds 72

Box score

San Diego - Lesego Molebatsi got the Sunbirds off to a good start, but the host Point Loma Nazarene University Sea Lions used double figure scoring from five players to defeat FPU 89-72 in a Golden State Athletic Conference game in Golden Gymnasium today.

Molebatsi scored FPU's first five points for an early lead, but three quick fouls forced the senior to the bench for over eight first-half minutes.

FPU trailed by nine points (41-32) at the break.

The Sea Lions stretched their lead to 16 points (66-50) midway through the second half and the Sunbirds would draw no closer.

Matt Benson led the PLNU (14-8, 9-6) with 20 points. There was plenty of help from Josh Sanderson and Casey Ortiz (both scored 15 points), while Nick Corso added 11 points and Xavier Lopez 10.

Rudy Lopez led the Sunbirds (11-11, 4-10) with 20 points. Molebatsi finished with 15, while Jordan Beshore added 13 points and Josh Urbiztondo 11.

The Sunbirds return to the Special Events Center Tuesday night to host the Biola University Eagles. Tip-off time in the Special Events Center is 7:30 p.m.
