Personal - Melissa was born in Corcoran and her parents are Diana and Lucio Montoya of Corcoran... is the second of four children... has one older sister, on younger sister and a younger brother... is an accomplished lifeguard... is a Sue Bird fan... lists cheese cake among her favorite food... home church is Visalia First Assembly of God... is a communication major.
Prior to FPU - Melissa was a three sport letter winner at Corcoran High School, including softball, volleyball and basketball... specialized in basketball where she was the Panthers' and West Sequoia League MVP in both her junior and senior seasons... was named to the County All Star team for the annual City/County game... capped off her high school basketball career by being named to the All-State Division V team... Melissa was also the Panther volleyball MVP and West Sequoia League honoree her senior season... was named to the 2001-2002 Fresno Bee second team.
As a freshman (2002-03) - Melissa appeared in 30 of the team's 31 games, including five starts... averaged 2.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in 13 minutes of action per game.
As a sophomore (2003-04) - Melissa appeared in 28 of the team's 31 contests... averaged 3.9 points and 3.4 rebounds in 13.8 minutes of action per game.
As a junior (2004-05) - Melissa appeared in each of the team's 31 contests, including 25 starts... lead the team in both scoring and rebounding with a 15.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per game... nailed 61 of 136 3-point attempts and established FPU's 3-point accuracy record of 44.9 percent in the process... reached double-figures in scoring in 23 games... also reached double figures in rebounds four times... was named to the All-GSAC team.
As a senior (2005-06) - Melissa appeared in everyone of the Sunbird's 29 contests, including 23 starts... recovered from knee surgery for a solid year... averaged 11.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 0.8 steals in 26.4 minutes per game... Melissa hit double figure points 15 times...
