Game 2 - FPU 66, William Jessup 46
Box score

Fresno - Fresno Pacific University Sunbirds used a big second half to gain their third win of the season, a 66-46 victory over William Jessup University on the first day of the FPU Holiday Classic.

Danae Tate was good on 7-8 from the field for 14 first-half points as the Warriors were within four points (33-29) after 20 minutes.

The Sunbirds, after a half-time pep-talk by head coach Jim Hall, opened the final 20 minutes with a 13-4 spurt. That put the hosts up by 12 points, 46-34 with 14 minutes to play. Taylor Lumas closed the gap to 10 points with a basket on the Warriors next possession, but would draw no closer.

"Let's just say that we didn't talk about them," said Hall. "We talked about what we needed to do and what we needed to do better. We played better in the second half, but we have more work to do."

Senior guard Denise Fast led the Sunbirds, now 3-3 on the season, with 18 points, five rebounds, four steals and tree assists Kari Cox added 15 points for FPU.

Tate scored six more points in the second half, but they came in the final six minutes when the game was out of reach. She led all players with 20 points. Lumas finished with 14 points and also pulled down 10 rebounds to complete the double-double.

William Jessup will face Vanguard tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. while the Sunbirds will take on Bethany at 3:00 p.m.
