Livestats from the Special Events Center

Fresno - The Fresno Pacific University Sunbirds are still looking for their first Golden State Athletic Conference win of the season after a 79-65 loss to the visiting Point Loma Nazarene University Sea Lions this afternoon in the Special Events Center.

The Sunbirds got into a hole early as the Sea Lions raced to a 23-10 lead and settled for a 16-point margin (41-25) after 20 minutes of play.

Denise Fast's three free throws with 5:06 to play, cut the Sea Lions lead to six points (66-60), but PLNU responded with a 13-5 run in the closing minutes to salt it away.

Kerra Wodarski led PLNU (9-4, 3-2) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Mica DeHoog notched a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Kati Hilbelink added 14 points for the winners.

Melissa Montoya led FPU (4-9, 0-4) with 22 points and six rebounds. Brooke Stanley was 6-8 from 3-point range on her way to 19 points, while Fast finished with 11 points and six assists. Stanley also pulled down 11 rebounds to complete the double-double.

"As a coach you're always looking for something positive, even in a loss," said FPU head coach Jim Hall. "When your two All-GSAC players are a combined 7-30, your team is shooting about 30 percent, and your are only down six points with five minutes to play, you feel like you have a shot to win. It didn't happen tonight, but we'll keep working at it."

The Sunbirds will be in La Mirada to face Biola on Tuesday. They return to the Special Events Center next Saturday to host the top-ranked Vanguard University Lions. Tip-off time is 2:30 p.m.
