Saturday, February 18, 2006 - GSAC Game #17
Final -
#14 The Master's 71, Sunbirds 47

Box score

Fresno - A 6-for-26 shooting effort in the second half doomed any hopes the host Sunbirds had of pulling out a win this afternoon in the Special Events Center.

The Master's college Mustangs, ranked 14th in the NAIA used a balanced offense and a tight defense to hand FPU a 71-47 defeat in the Special Events Center.

The Mustangs out-rebounded FPU 46-33 and also forced 21 FPU turnovers.

Jessica Seyler was the only Mustang to reach double-figures. She scored 12 points on a night when 10 of 11 Mustangs scored.

"We were in it 'till about midway through the second half," said FPU head coach Jim Hall. "They put a run on us and we didn't respond. We won't win many games shooting 23 percent in the second half."

Melissa Montoya led FPU, now 7-19 overall and 3-14 in GSAC play, with 12 points, before leaving the game with an undisclosed leg injury. Kari Cox was only 1-of -3 from the field but was good on each of her eight free throw opportunities and finished with 10 points.

The Sunbirds will be in Azusa on Tuesday to take on 17th-ranke Azusa Pacific (21-7, 13-5). They return to the Special Events Center next Saturday to host San Diego Christian in their final home game of the eseason. Tip-off time is 2:30 p.m.
