The 2003 season will be Joel Ramirez' eleventh season as an assistant coach. He completed an outstanding collegiate career for the Sunbirds in 1991. He is among FPU's career leaders with 35 goals, 25 assists and 95 points. He was a three-time All-Golden State Athletic Conference, All-District Three and NAIA All-America honoree (1989, 90, 91). He majored in natural science and completed a bachelors degree from FPU in 1992.

Ramirez served as the head coach for the boys varsity team at Clovis West High School form 2001-03. He guided CWHS to the Valley Championship in 2002. In addition to his FPU duties he also serves as an assistant coach for the Fresno Fuego, a member of the Premier Development League.

Ramirez, who is the younger brother of head coach Jaime Ramirez, has served as an elementary school teacher for seven years. He is recently began his fourth year as a second grade teacher at West Fresno Elementary School.
