FPU romps over Bethany 16-0

Box score

Fresno - The Fresno Pacific University scored early and often in a 16-0 romp over the visiting Bethany College Bruins at Steinert Field this afternoon.

Eddie Gutierrez tapped in Orlando Ramirez cross just 7:52 into the game to give the Sunbirds a 1-0 lead. That opened the flood gates as the FPU would score seven more goals in the next 12 minutes.

It was 11-0 after 45 minutes of play. That freed FPU head coach Jaime Ramirez to clear his bench.

"I expected more out of them," said Ramirez. "But this gave us an opportunity to give our younger players some playing time."

When the dust had settled the both Jared Dugger and Adam Arteaga had registered 3-goal hat-tricks. Orlando Ramirez finished with a pair of goals and three assists. Gutierrez also scored twice as did Edison High School freshman Cameron Hill.

FPU will be in San Rafael on Tuesday to taken on Dominican University.

Next home game is Saturday, September 18 when the Sunbirds host Holy Names. Kick-off time at Steinert Field will be 7:00 PM.
