Final: Sunbirds 3, Biola 2
La Mirada - FPU's sophomore striker, Amaury Nunes, named the Golden State Athletic Conference player of the week for his role in the team's two wins last week, did it again tonight.
Nunes scored two goals, including the match-winner, to lead FPU to a 3-2 in Golden State Athletic Conference win over Biola in La Mirada tonight.
Juan Alfaro started the play on the winning goal by chasing down a long ball at the Eagles' end line. He crossed it far post to Cameron Hill who settled it, then fed a perfect pass to Nunes who fired it home.
"That was a great play," said FPU head coach Jaime Ramirez of the winning goal. "We built it from the back and Juan ran a long way- probably 35 yards- to save it. Amaury really cracked it. I was real pleased with the way we stayed disciplined tonight. We played well."
The Sunbirds, improved to 7-3-2 on the season and 6-1-0 in GSAC play. The FPU win, combined with a rain postponement of the Azusa Pacific/The Master's contest, gives the Sunbirds sole possession of first place.
The Sunbirds return to Steinert Field on Saturday to host Westmont. Kick-off time is 7:00 p.m.
