FRESNO Prior to tonight’s home-opener at Steinert Field the scouting report on the Fresno Pacific men’s soccer team was shut down the Brazilian Amaury Nunes and you win.
Tonight the Sunbird’s gave their Golden State Athletic Conference opponents something to think about.
Fellow Brazilian Gilberto Da Silveira found the back of the net four times as FPU defeated Menlo 8-0 in their final non-conference match of the season.
FPU got on the board early early (3:20) with a goal from junior midfielder Adrian Alvarado. Da Silveira then scored back to back goals in the 8th and 15th minutes.
Alvarado who also had two assists on the night.
Da Silveira’s cross found the head of Marcus Cabello in the 23rd minute for a 4-0 lead. Da Silveira scored again in the 28th and 53rd minutes.
Nehemias Blanco got his first goal of the season in the 52nd minute.
Nunes, who entered the game with six goals on the season, including match-winners in each of FPU's five wins, was silent until the 71st minute.
FPU goalkeeper Brandon Cave was required to make only one save to record his fourth shutout of the season
“I was really pleased with how well rounded we were tonight. We have more than one threat and we finally showed that off. Gilberto has a ton of skill and a great foot,” said head coach Jaime Ramirez.
The Sunbirds, now 6-0-1 on the season, open GSAC play in Costa Mesa this Wednesday against Vanguard. They return home next Saturday, September 30, to host California Baptist. Kick-off time is 7:00 PM.
