Final - Vanguard 1, No 12 Sunbirds 0
Box score
Costa Mesa - Today was a roller coaster of emotions for the Fresno Pacific University men's soccer team. First the good news: the Sunbirds climbed in the NAIA national poll moving up to #12. Bad news: the Sunbirds were on the short end of a 1-0 score to the unranked Lions of Vanguard University.
FPU created three solid first half scoring opportunities, but couldn't find the back of the net. The Lions, however, capitalized with an unassisted goal by Tom Culver in the 54th minute.
"It is a real bitter feeling to know you let one get away. If you don't show up to play then they deserve to beat you," said head coach Jaime Ramirez, commenting on his team's inability to finish.
The Sunbirds return to action Saturday when they host Cal Baptist University under the lights at Steinert Field. Kick-off is at 7:00 PM.
