Sunbirds 4, Holy Names 1
Fresno - Three late goals propelled the Fresno Pacific University Sunbirds to a 4-1 non-conference win over Holy Names. The match was played at Steinert Field this evening.
Sarah Palmore gave the Sunbirds a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal in the 33rd minute. Jeanna Ruble made it 2-0 at 73:35.
Ruble's goal touched-off a scoring flurry in the final 18 minutes.
Just three minutes later Rocio Ferree's goal, on an assist from Myra Loza, closed the gap to 2-1.
FPU slammed the door on a pair of gaols by sophomore Brooke Wininger. At 86:20 Winniger picked up a loose ball and fired it home. Three minutes later Winniger converted a pass from Svetlana Stepanchuk to make it 4-1.
FPU outshot the Penguins 19-4. Audra Carter, who went the distance, was credited with three saves in registering her first win of the season.
The Sunbirds will host Dominican University of San Rafael next Saturday, September 17. Kick-off time at Steinert Field is 7:00 p.m.
