Humboldt State 1, Sunbirds 0
Sunbirds drop season opener to Lumberjacks
ARCATA - Kristen Demaria's goal, 25:50 into the match, was all the Humboldt State University Lumberjacks needed to post a 1-0 win over the Sunbirds 1-0 in non-conference soccer action Sunday in Arcata.
The lone goal came on a free kick following a foul outside the right side of the box. Jessica Hewins lofted the ball across to the far lost where Demaria connected with her head, directing the ball into the net.
Audra Carter faced nine shot in the FPU goal and was credited with four saves.
The Lumberjacks improved to 3-3-0 on the season while FPU is now 0-1-0.
The Sunbirds will be in Ashland tomorrow to face Southern Oregon University. Kick-off time is 1:00 p.m.
