Saturday, May 28, 2005 - All-America honors for Ordaz; Hernandez 15, Perez 37th in marathon
If Mario Ordaz was disappointed with his 17th place finish in the shot put yesterday, he more than made up for it today. Ordaz unleashed a toss of 165-06 to finish in fifth place and claim All-America honors on the closing day of the 2005 NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Louisville, Kentucky.
Robert Hernandez finished 15th in the marathon this morning at the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. His time was 2:35:12. Teammate Jon Perez finished 37th in 3:04:53.
FPU, with 10 points, finished in 22nd place along with five other schools in the men's team competition.
Friday, May 27, 2005 - Allen 11th, Ordaz 17th
Senior long jumper Nick Allen finished 11th and junior thrower Mario Ordaz was 17th in the shot put today at the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Louisville, Kentucky.
Allen best jump was 22-04.25, some eight inches off his 23-00.25 season best.
Ordaz' best of the day was a 47-09 effort, well off his season-best 50-00.75 at the Golden State Athletic Conference championship a month ago.
Ordaz will compete in his specialty, the discus, tomorrow.
Thursday, May 26, 2005 - All-America honors for Ben-Shushan
Senior hammer thrower Shlomi Ben-Shushan, a native of Kfar-Saba, Israel wrapped up his collegiate career with a third-place finish in his specialty at the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
Ben-Shushan's mark of 189-06 was a season best, but six and one-half feet short of the Will Moman's (Doane, Nebraska) 196-01 winning throw. Ben-Shushan was the 2004 champion with an 192-10 toss.
The third place finish earns NAIA All-America honors for the third time. In addition to winning last year's hammer championship, Ben-Shushan finished third in the 2004 Indoor 35-pound weight throw.
