Prior to FPU - Annie was a three sport varsity athlete at Lemoore High School concentrating on basketball, softball and water polo.
Personal - Annie is the daughter of Robert and Sue Sippel... she follows her parents and older brother Philip to FPU... favorite foods include strawberries and chocolate... home church is Kings Evangelical Free Church in Hanford... is a mathematics major and plans a career as a high school mathematics teacher.
As a freshman (2000) - Annie was a member of the Sunbirds basketball team, then decided to give track and field a try... concentrated on the 200 and 400 meters and long jump... ran the lead off leg of the Sunbirds record-breaking 4x400 meter relay team that placed fourth in GSAC Championship.
As a sophomore (2001) - Annie established herself as one of the busiest and hardest-working athletes on the team... competed in the javelin, high jump, long jump, 200 meters, 400 meters, 100 meter hurdles, heptathlon as well as a leg in the 4x400 meter relay team... perhaps her finest moment came at the NAIA National Championship when her 7-second personal best in the final event of the heptathlon, the 800 meters (2:24.81), propelled her from 11th to 8th place and NAIA All-America honorable mention honors... was named the Sunbirds MVP.
As a junior (2002) - Annie picked up right where she left off her sophomore season... broke FPU records in the 300 and 400 meters, 55 meter hurdles and the 400 meter hurdles... became the first-ever FPU woman to win the Golden State Athletic Conference 400 meter hurdles championship... was named the Sunbirds MVP for the second consecutive season... earned NAIA All-America honors with her fourth place finish in the heptathlon at the National Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Olathe, Kansas... 4,594 point total is second highest in FPU history... also named to NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete team
As a senior (2003) - Annie wrapped up her collegiate career with another great season... broke FPU records in the 400 meters... also broke Anna Butz' 100 meter hurdles record of 15.52, a mark which stood since May 25, 1988... entered six events at the GSAC championship and finished with four silver and two bronze medals... was named the Sunbirds MVP for the third consecutive season... finished third in the heptathlon at the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Olathe, Kansas, in May to earn NAIA All-America honors... also named to NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete team. |
