Sunbirds make it 13 in a row

The Fresno Pacific University Sunbirds made a strong statement tonight sweeping Notre Dame de Namur 30-14, 30-17, 30-23 to go 4-0 on the season.
With the win the Sunbirds also claimed their 13th consecutive FPU Invitational Championship and 16th in 22 years.
FPU hit .485 for the match while their defense held the visitors to .085.
Freshman Brittany Pierce led FPU with 17 kills on 29 swings with only one error for a .552 attack efficiency. Pierce also had 11 digs, as did Katie Wild.
Marin Shilling, an all-tournament pick, added 12 kills and four blocks. Lorena Zuleta, the tournament MVP, added eight kills and five blocks.
Concordia, also with a 4-0 record, was the runner-up. Both teams swept their four opponents on route to scoring 360 points. The Eagles, however, yielded 281 points to their opponents while FPU allowed 226 poins.
Next up for the Sunbirds are the Fresno State Bulldogs. Tuesday's exhibition match begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Special Events Center.

Sunbirds sweep #16 Cornerstone

The Fresno Pacific University Sunbirds made it three in a row with a 30-18, 30-21, 30-20 win over Cornerstone of Michigan.
Marin Shilling (19 kills) and Brittany Pierce (16 kills, 14 digs) again led the way for the 3-0 Sunbirds. Lorena Zuleta and Thais Julio also reached double figures with 13 ans 10 kills, respectively.
FPU will face a Notre Dame de Namur at 7:00 p.m.
