FPU improves to 6-0 with pair of sweeps today in Irvine
Irvine - The Fresno Pacific University Sunbirds ran their early season record to 6-0 with a pair of 3-game sweeps in Irvine today.
Thais Julio hammered 20 kills this morning as the Sunbirds dismissed the 8th-ranked Texas Wesleyan 30-23, 30-28, 30-24. Brittany Pierce added nine kills, seven digs and four services aces. Setter Shu Liu handed out 39 assists and also had seven kills
Head coach Dennis Janzen rested Julio and Liu against Holy Names. Pierce picked up much of the slack registering 16 kills and 16 digs to lead the Sunbirds to a 30-25, 30-21, 30-26 sweep of Holy Names. Deanna Richards and Marin Shilling added 10 and nine kills, respectively, while Gera Bahr had 10 digs.
"We didn't play great," said Janzen. "But we played good enough to win."
Tomorrow FPU faces Redlands at 9:00 a.m. and Lindsey Wilson, of Kentucky 3:00 p.m.
